Lincoln announces Ten Percent Plan
This announcement, also known as Lincoln's 1863 Proclamation of Amnesty. was apart of his plan for America's Reconstruction. The Ten Percent Plan declared that a state may be readmitted to the Union provided 10% of its population swore a loyalty oath to the Union and promised to abolish slavery. -
Lincoln vetoes Wade-Davis Bill
The Wade-Davis Bill, part of Raducal Reconstruction, proposed that all states must now accept slavery's end, and, furthermore, to grant alll African-Americans the right to vote. It also stated that 50% or greater of a state's population msut sign a loyalty oath to the Union before it is readmitted. -

The 13th Amendment is approved and ratified by Congress
The Thirteenth Amendment outlined that African-Americans were no longer enslaved, but liberated. They could no longer be sold or owned and they couldn't forcefully be separated from their own, -
Congress creates Freedmen's Bureau
The Freedmen's Bureau was a welfare agancy established in order to assist former slaves in their transition to full-fledged citizens. It provided food, clothing, medical aid, and many other services to make life easier. It was established in March of 1865. -

Mississipppi enacts first Black Code
The Black Codes were laws that, essentially, made African-Americans second-class citizens. These lw\aws ranged from denying African-Americans the right to vote, to intermarraige between blacks and whites, to mandatory public segregation. -

Radical Republicans
Radical Republicans were strong opposers of slavery during and after the war. They were wary of ex-Confederates and believed that they must be harshly piunished for their actions and they further pursued equal rights for freedmen, -

The First Reconstruction Act divided the South into five military districts in which the supreme word was that of a military commander. -
Johnson impeached
After the Civil War ended, there was an "eruption" of political conflicts, compromised beliefs, and the race for power. A big event that led to his impeachment was his dismissal of the Secretary of War without Senate approval. -
14th Amendment ratified
The Fourteenth Amendment granted citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States", which included the freedmen. -
Ulysses S. Grant elected
Ulysses S. Grant was as heroic a president as he was a commanding general. He toiled, and his efforts helped to implement Congessional Reconstruction and eliminate the footprints of slavery. -
Sharecropping
Sharecropping was a form of agricukture in which a landowner parcels his land and allows tenants to farm on it in return for a shair of the crops they harvest. -
15th Amendment ratified
The Fifteenth Amendment prohibits the governent from denying a citizen the right to vote, regardless of race, color, or "previous servitude". -
Enforceent Acts
The Enforcement Acts consisted of a series of three bills passed by Congress in effrt to enforce black protection by government and equality to whtes. These were criminal codes that ensurd heir right to hold office, serve on a jury, vote, and receive equal legal protection. These acts were directed toward organizations like the Ku Klux Klan, which was known for torturing blacks f they attempted to do any of these. -
Amnesty Act of 1872
This Act removed restrictions previously place on former embers of the confederacy. Now, all but 500 of them had their voting rights and office-holding rights restored. This gave back rights tha they had not had since the Civil War's end. -

Compromise of 1877
This Compromise was secretly hammered out before Hayes' inauguration to avoid violence once more. It stated that, there would be at least one Democrat member of the Cabinet, that the federal government would help industrialize the South, that the federal tropps woukd be removed from the South, and that Recnstruction would end. -
Hayes declared president; Reconstruction ends
