The seawall was constructed about a century before the hurricane. After the hurricane the rush was on to rebuild the wall before the next hurricane season. -

Galveston hits and kills between 8,000 and 12,000 people. -
St. Mary's
St. Mary's Orphanage was also very damaged that day. This building is special because of what the nuns did. The Nuns wanted to protect everybody so they tied everybody by the wrist. -
The Ruins of St. Patricks Catholic Church
The people of the church didn't know the storm was coming they just went out to see the high tide. This cause close to 6,000 deaths. -

Martial law was used to protect bodies from looting and from pictures. -
After the Storm
After the hurricane damage was measured and thought to be close to $30,00 in damage. -

After the hurricane bodies were everywhere. First, the bodies were put into the sea, but the tide later that night. The next day bodies were piled high and lit on fire to get rid of them. -
