Henry Clay. It was a way to balance the power between congress and the states. The compromise was passed but later repealed.
It was the first state to become a slave free and slave state. Maine was the location for the compromise. -

David Wilmot. It was designed to eliminate slavery from land acquired from the Mexican war. The Wilmot proviso was unsuccessful and was a factor leading to the civil war. It was a main factor leading to the civil war and thus held great historical significance. Mexico. -
Compromise of 1850
Henry Clay. Was made it settle several outstanding slavery issues and to avert the threat of dissolution of the Union.(Copy and paste). Slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished. California. -
Fugitive Slave Act
Henry Clay. It was a part of the compromise of 1850. Made it so that slaves had to go back to their owners regardless of whether they are in a free state or not. Pennsylvania was where it took place. -

Kansas Nebraska Act/ Bleeding Kansas
Stephen Douglas . It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. Two groups began to fight and as the death toll rose it earned the nickname bleeding Kansas. Kansas was where it took place. -
Dred Scott Case
Dred Scott. Even though he lived in a free land and owned land he was a slave and thus couldn’t sue. this event showed that even if he was living in a free land African Americans were still heavily oppressed. Missouri was where it took place. -
Lincoln Douglas Debate
Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. They were trying to win control for their respective parties. In the end Douglas triumphed over Lincoln. Illinois was where it took place. -

John Brown. John Brown led a raid on several armory’s .West Virginia. -
Lincoln’s Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin. Abraham won the election. Him being president led to lots of improvement. Virginia was where it all ended. -
Southern Secession
Abraham Lincoln. This occurred due to the southern states not wanting to give up their precious slaves. The southern states Severed their ties with the union and fought against the northern states. This battle played a huge part in history Having been defeated in war the southern states and no choice but to free the slaves so this allowed slaves to gain freedom. The biggest battle was in Gettysburg so i'm going to leave it at that.
