    Binh Hau and her family had to flee their village in Central Highlands, Vietnam. They went to Cambodia to hide from the Vietnamese government.

    After Binh Hau's father was killed by the Vietnamese government, Binh Hau and her family had to flee Cambodia. Binh Hau and her family left Cambodia and secretly fled to Thailand.
  • Life in Thailand

    Binh Hau and her family had to be smuggled from Cambodia to Thailand. After making it safely to Thailand, the Nguyen family has been reunited with other Montagnards in Thailand. There in Thailand, the Nguyen family is protected by a program that helps Montagnard refugees.
  • My First Persecution

    After being in Thailand for about 8 months, everything had been going well for Binh and her family. That however changed when she was assaulted by a group of men who claimed to be government officials from Vietnam. They hurt her and told her that they would find the rest of her family and then kill them all.
  • Desire to Leave Thailand

    After worrying for her life and her family's life, Binh decides to take action. She is considering to apply to become a refugee in a foreign country, away from Asia.
  • Applying to Become a Refugee

    After researching how and where to get help, Binh has gotten her family and herself registered with the U.S. to get there refugee application started.
  • My First Interview

    After getting Binh's refugee registration processed by the U.S., Binh is going to get interviewed by the U.S.
  • Refugee Status Approval

    After getting processed for her refugee status for two years, Binh is finally allowed to enter the U.S. She will be leaving soon once everything is settled and ready for her to leave Thailand.
  • Life in America

    Binh is finally in America as a refugee. She has been resettled in North Carolina along with other Montagnards. She is now counting the days until she can apply to become a U.S. citizen
  • Becoming U.S. Citizen

    After waiting for four years, Binh is ready to become a U.S. citizen
