    Meeting of the Estates General

    The meeting was created to discuss the financial problems between France. This meeting was set up by the King but eventually caused problems throughout France. When the first meeting occurred the 3rd estate realized that they had the most amount of people. The last meeting that they had was right before the Revolution. They weakened the king and set the end of representation based on the social classes.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    On July 14, 1789, the Prison known as the Bastille was attacked by an angry mob of people. The Prison became a symbol for monarchy dictatorship. The Prison only heald 7 prisoners. The angry mob took charge and was able to take over the building. This was seen as the first event in the French Revolution. It symbolized liberty, equality, and brotherhood.

  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man & Citizen is published

    The Declaration of the Rights of Man & Citizen is published
    The Declaration or Rights of Man and citizen was created to give the freedoms and rights to men. It was much like the Constitution and had a list of rules that must be followed by everyone. This article was created to protect the rights that they have as men and citizens. This brought up many problems because women felt it was unfair that they didn't have the same rights as the men have and that they should be included in this Declaration as well.

    Women’s March on Versailles
    The Women's march took place because the Women were not written into the laws and rights just men and citizens. As the believed this was unfair they decided to take action. The increase in bread sales and the high prices angered many women. The women began marching through Paris demanding bread and soon began demanding arms as well. They marched to the King's palace and demanded their rights be given to them. After they feared that the queen would be killed they eventually surrendered.

    The surrounding colonies were scared that the Revolution would lead to their countries causing harm to them. The other colonies were to suspecting to unite against France. They met with the Legislative assembly and declared war on Austria. The arm fared poorly at the beginning but the armies became more successful as the war began to progress.

    The Execution of King Louis
    On this day, King Louis was executed. In 1792 the king and his wife were arrested. They had found evidence against him and decided to put him to treason. He was put to death by a small majority of people. On January 21 he was executed and a 7 months later his wife was executed for treason along with his wife. He was executed when he wouldn't agree with the rights of the new Constitution.

    Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was started by the Committee of Public Saftey. They began executing people that got in their way. They needed to remove people that got in the way of the Revolution being able to succeed. There were 300,000 people that were suspected during the Reign of Terror, 17,000 were executed and 10,000 people died in prison or without trial.

    Execution of Marie Antoinette
    In her time as queen, she would always resist the new changes on the monarchy. They tried to both escape to Austria after the uproar of the people increased. They were eventually captured and taken back to France. They were both commended for Treason.
  • Execution of Robespierre

    Execution of Robespierre
    Robespierre was the architect for the Reign of Terror. In 1791 he excluded himself from the new Legislative assembly. He was one of the people that rose up against the King and even became the head of the National Convention. On July 27th, Robespierre and his allies were placed under arrest by the National Assembly and were taken to Prison. He tried to shoot himself but after a failed attempt the hotel he fled to was raided and he and his other allies were executed.

    Napoleon’s Coup d'etat
    This event was known as the end of the Revolution. Napolean was part of a group that was able to overthrow the French directory. Napoleon became the First Consul of France giving him the power of being the highest government there was. This event led them to create a Constitution to better France after the Revolution.
