Sugar act
This act added a tax on imports from the caribbean from six cents per gallon, to three cents. This made everybody who was smuggling goods very angry because it forced them to stop smuggling when they were making very good money from it. -
The stamp act
This act declared that all printed material must carry a stamp which was not free, this was clearly a way to gain revenue for Britain. This made people like lawyers and newspaper printers very angry because it was forced to be on all paper. -
Declaratory act
This act stated that Parliament could make laws binding the American colonies "in all cases whatsoever." which seemed like a violation of rights to many. This angered the colonists because it made them feel like they had no say over their taxes whatsoever and that left a bad taste in the mouth of the people of the American colonies. -
The Townshend acts
The Townshend acts initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. This angered the colonists because now they had to pay higher taxes on British imported goods. -
The tea act
The tea act granted the British East India Company Tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. This act is what caused the people to rebel and dump over 4 million dollars worth of todays money in tea into a river as protest. -
