Iriquois Confederacy
When the Tuscarora joined the Iriquois Confederacy, the English called them The Six Nations. -
Hostility grew between the two forces.
During the 1740's hostility between Britain and France grew. The British had a fur trader built at Fort Pickawillany. So the French attacked the fort and drove the tradres out. -
Britain and France in the 1700's
During the 1750's, Britain and France were two of the strongest powers in Europe. -
Iroquois under Pressure
In the mid- 1700's the Iroquois' area was shrinking because Britain was moving farther into the Ohio Valley. -
French tresspassing on British land
In the Fall of 1753, Governor Robert Dinwiddie of Virginia sent George Washington to tel the French that they were tresspassing on British land. -
Washinton sent back
In the Sping of 1754, Robert Dinwiddie made George Washington lieutenant colonel and sent him back to the Ohio country with a militia to build forts. When they get there they discover that the French are already building Fort Duquense. -
Threat of War
In June of 1754 representatives from many different colonies met in Albany, New York to discuss the threat of war. They ahd to find a way to defend themselves against the French. They also wanted to persuade the Iroquois to support the British.
