  • Red River Rebellion

The Red River Rebellion started because the Metis in Manitoba did not feel safe from the Canadians. So a leader stepped forward in Louis Riel. This is called a rebellion because in the end the Metis won the right of their land. They then formed the Red River Colony which is now Manitoba. The Metis loved Louis Riel, but one night he killed a man by the name of Thomas Scott.Thomas was an Ontario Englishmen who was against them.Louis then fled to the US where he hid. He was later hung for his murder.
  • WWI Conscription Crisis

The Conscription Crisis in 1917 caused riots and protests. Not enough people volunteered, so Robert Borden gave anyone that volunteered a vote including women, but men ages to 18-41 must join the war. Some Englishmen were against it, but most of the argument came from Quebec.Luckily conscription only was there for the final few years of war.The man against Borden was Sir Wilfred Laurier. He might not of one, but this election had the biggest political impact ever.It was known as the khaki election.
  • Period: to

    Duplessis and the Grande Noiceur

He was the leader of Quebec from 1936-1939 and 1944-1959. He was a horrible man and would do lots of things to take english people's jobs out of Quebec.Even though he would still give them jobs because they would give him money. He would take all the orphans out of orphanages and put them in hospitals because it would be more cost efficient. It is called the Grande Noiceur because in english it means the great darkness. He kept getting elected because he gave the farmers electricity and free beer.
  • Period: to

    Richard Riot

The Richard Riot played a big part in French-English relations. Maurice Richard was a hockey player for the Canadians. He was suspended for hitting a lineman with his stick. He would be suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs. The french felt that he was only suspended for this long because he was french. The commissioner of the league at the time was Clarence Campbell and Englishman, who showed up at the first game that Richard would not play in.The French saw him there and had a riot.
  • The Quiet Revolution

This revolution began after Maurice Duplessis died and new leader Jean Lesage took place. He took out corruptness and the Catholic church out of school. He made Quebec strong and made French people want to be in Quebec.Another reason to why it is called the Quiet Revolution is that it made a lot of change. They not only kicked the church out of schools, but out of hospitals as well. They expanded their public services. They also made themselves independent because they are the only French Province.
  • Expo 67

An expo is somewhere that people from all over the world will try and find universal problems. Many different nations and moral visitors come. In 1967 Montreal was host. This event shaped Montreal's downtown. Another term for this event is World Fair. The most people that have ever come to a Expo is Shanghai in 2010.
  • official languages act

This is an act that makes Canada bilingual. This makes English and French equal. This also makes jus harder to get in some places because you might need to learn French or English. An example of a job that you need to speak both languages is the PM. Another one is anywhere in the government. Also if you work in Ontario you might need to learn French. This law was passed through by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He was from Quebec and wanted French and English to be on even playing fields.
  • October Crisis

The October Crisis was one of Canada's first terrorist attacks. It was executed by the FLQ. The FLQ were a group that wanted to achieve french independence. They kidnapped James Cross and Pierre Laporte. James was the British trade commissioner in Canada and Pierre was the second man in Quebec. On October 13 PM Pierre Trudeau said a famous phrase," Just Watch Me," when asked how far he would go in the suspension of civil liberties to maintain order. The October Crisis ended on December 28 1970.
  • Bill 22

Bill 22 is a act that makes French the only language in Quebec. It was passed through by the National Assembly of Quebec and made possible by Robert Bourassa. The makes french the spoken language in workplaces as well. This was a huge step for Quebec because now their major language is now a official one.
  • Bill 101

Bill 101 is just an improvement of Bill 22. 101 just makes French to be more accepted. It is now a law that french people may speak French in everyday talk, at work, if you were to go to a restaurant that you are served in French.
  • Night of the Long Knives

This is when Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau wanted to make Canada a constitution. The queen of England came over to Canada to make Canada a constitution. It is called what it is because Quebec Premier Rene Levesque thought he was stabbed in the back when not told about the act. He was the only one not sleeping in the Chateau Laurier. Trudeau on April 17 1982 would have the queen come over to Canada to sign the act.
  • Birth of Separatism

This is mainly about when Quebec tried to leave Canada on two separate occasions. The first referendum happened in 1980 and the second 1995. In 1980 the votes came in and 60% wanted to stay and 40% wanted to leave Canada. 1995 49% wanted to leave and 51% wanted to stay in Canada. If Quebec would have left then they would have become their own country. In the end I am happy this did not happen because we are better together. If they had a referendum today I think that Quebec would stay again.
