    Purpose to establish British control over North America. It was a global conflict that lasted 7 years. British forces lost leaving the colonies in dept and colonists dissatisfied
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act extended the Molasses Act by changing the tax on imports from the Caribbean from six cents to three cents per gallon. Although this was a tax cut, it was enforced to stop smuggling, leaving many colonists annoyed.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act called for all printed material to carry a stamp that cost money. The Stamp Act Congress united colonists to boycott British goods because of anger over the tax.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Act of Great Britain Parliament to repeal Stamp Act and Sugar Act. However, the act asserted the British ability to tax colonies. Most colonists were outraged, as the Declaratory Act stated that more acts would be required.
  • Townshed Act

    Townshed Act
    The Townshed Act was a new tax passed by the British parliament on imported goods such as tea, paint, paper, lead, and glass. This again pushed colonists to be discouraged from buying British goods.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act offered tax exemptions and rebates for tea coming from BEIC, allowing cheap tea to be dumped on colonists. This lowered tea prices. However, colonists were angry on principle and dumped a modern equivalent of 4 million dollars of tea into the harbor.
