Battle of Fort Necessity
Washington and some men push on after they heard of the surrender at Fort Duquesne. They build a smaller fort which they call Fort Necessity. French and Indian troops attack and Washington surrenders. This is the start of the French and Indian War.

Battle of Monongahela
General Braddock, George Washington, and about 2,000 men, marched through dense woods but were attacked by the French and their Native American allies. Braddock was shot and later died. The British surrendered.

The British take Fort Niagara; and the French abandon Crown Point. Fort Niagara is located near Youngstown, New York, and Crown Point is located on the west shore of lake Champlain.
