In 1944 Irene Morgan was arrested because she wouldn't give up her seat on a bus to a white man. Court ruled all commercial buses to be segragated. -
Journey of Reconciliation
was a two-week journy that sixteen men (eight black and eight white) went on into south becuase of the Irene morgan v. Virginia case which ruled that all commercial buses have to be segragated. -
Boynton v. Virginia Case
In 1960 the supreme court ruled segregationon public transportation was unconstitutional, because of the Interstate Commerce Act in which prohibited discrimination in interstate passenger transportation. -
The First Freedom Ride
The first freedom ride, leaving Washington DC was to arrive in New Orleans on May 17. there were thirteen freedom riders (seven black and six white) riding on a Grayhound and a Trailways bus. -
KKK Mob Attack
The Ku Klux Klan plannned for the freedom ride to come to an end in Alabama. The FBI arranged for the mob to have fifteen minutes to attack the freedom riders without any arrests being made.
The mob attacked the Greyhound bus. -
