Frederick Douglass was born sometime in Febuary in the year 1818. His name was originally Frederick Bailey, but he later changed it to avoid detection from slave catchers. -

Slave Breaker
Sometime in 1834 Frederick Douglass was given over to a "slave breaker". he did oppose him however "At that moment, from whence came the spirit I don't know, I resolved to fight. I seized Covey hard by the throat, and as i did so, I rose....Men are whipped oftenest who are whipped easiest." -
Sent to work.
in 1836 Frederck was sent to worrk in Baltimore as a caulker. He worked among white men who harassed him and beat him badly. the courts however refused to accept his testimony. -
Escape to Europe
By this time all of the slaves within the British empire were freed, so Frederick went to Englsnd to give speeches against slavery. -
Return to the States
Frederic Douglass went back to America. To quote him "We still live, and while there is life there is hope. The fact that we have endured wrongs and hardships, which would have destroyed any other race ought to strengthen our faith in ourselves and our future. Let us then resolutely struggle on in the belief that there is a better day coming, and that we by patience, industry, uprightness, and economy may hasten that better day." -
Supporter of equality
Frederick Douglass was a strong supportor of womens writes and a very active abolishinist. -

Frederick Douglass died Febuary 20 1895
