Frank Conrad was born on May 4th, 1874 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania -
Conrad the Apprentice
Conrad joins the westinghouse electrical and manufacturing company as an apprentice at the age of 16. -
Beginnings
Conrad first became interested in radio when he had a bet with his co worker about whos watch could tell the time better. Conrad won because he secretly switched his cheap watch componets with a more expensive watches components. Conrad built a radio reciever to pick up the national reservitory time signals. -
First radio
In the summer of 1916 Frank Conrad had an experimental radio station built on the top floor of his two story garage with the callsign 8XK. -
Civillan Radio Ban
America enters WW1 orders all civillian radio stations silenced. -
First broadcast
he was responsible for the first post war radio broadcast were he would play phonograph records. -
Ban Lifted
On October 1st, 1920 the civillian radio ban is lifted. -
KDKA Born
Put out the Westinghouse Election succesfully across all radios across East Pittsburgh called station 8ZZ. Would eventually become called KDKA -
Harding-Cox Presidential election
conrad Broadcasts the results for the Harding- Cox Election. -
8XK Relicensed
Relcensed his radio station making him once again able to broadcast. -
Death of A Legend
On Novemeber 6th Frank Conrad had a heart attack and died December 10th. -
