Six Nations
The confederacy initiailly included five nations- the Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, And Oneida. Other groups of North Amaricans later joined or weere conquered by the Iroquois. After the Tuscarona joined in 1722. -
Pickawillany
Hostility between the two forces grew. British fur traders built a fort at a place called Pickawillany. Acting quickly, the french attacked Pickawillany and drove the traders out of Ohio -
Ohio Valley
By the mid 1700's, however, the Iroquois came under grater pressure as the British moved into the ohio valley. Eventually, the leaders of the confederacy gave certain trading rights to the British and reuctantly became their allies. -
Govenor Robert Dinwiddie
In the fall of 1753, govenor Robert Dinwiddie of Virginia sent a surveyor named George Washington into the Ohio country. Wshington was 21 years old. His mission was to tell the French that they were trespasing on land that Great Britain claimed. -
In the spring
In the spring of 1754, Dinwiddie made Washington a lieutenant colonel. He then sent Washington back to the Ohio country with the militia a group of civilians trained to fight in emergencies. -
Albany, New York
Representatives from several colonies met in Albany, New York, in June 1754 to discuss the threat of war. The reason was that they wanted to protect themselves against the French.
