Iroquois Confederacy
Iroquois Confederacy was the most powerful Native American group in the East based in the New York area. Initally included five nations-the Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oneida. It managed to remain inpendent by trading with the British and Fench. -
Rivarlry Grows Worse
British fur traders built a fort at a place called Pickawillany. Acting quickly, the French attacked Pickawillany and drove the British traders out of Ohio. French also began raiding towns in Maine and New York. -
Iroquois Confederacy
Iroquois came under great pressure as the British moved into Ohio Valley. Eventually they gave some rights to the British and reluctantly became allies. -
George Washington
George Washington was sent into Ohio country. His mission was to tell French that they were tresspassing on Great Britain land and he had to demand they leave. -
Wasington's First Command
Dinwiddie made Washingtion a lieutntant colonel. He sent Washington into Ohio with a militia. -
Meeting
Several represntatives from colonies meet in Albany, New York. They wanted to discuess a plan to protect themself from the French.
