    Oglethorpe was tired of watching people be mistreated and saw how unfair things were. He wanted to create a place with more freedom and independence. Therefore, James Oglethorpe had the idea of founding a new colony to provide a place for the poor and destitute to start a fresh, new life.

    There were reports of black men assaulting white women. There was never any proof of this, but still, thousands of angry, white men gathered. They killed dozens of blacks and damaged many black- owned companies. All of this fighting influenced the statewide passage of prohibition in 1908.

    Georgia was the first of 10 states to go against ratification, giving the right for women to vote. Even when it became a federal law in 1920 , Georgia women were still prevented from voting until 1922.

    Martin Luther Kind Jr. and other civil right people formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This dedicated themselves to the nonviolent attainment of equal rights for Africa Americans.
