    Integration of University of Alabama
    Two black students tried to attend this university, but George Wallace had a problem with that. Wallace stood outside the entrance of this facility, so the student’s wouldn’t be able to get in. President Kennedy then sent out the National Guard to assist the students and to enforce desegregation.
  • John F. Kennedy Assassination

    John F. Kennedy Assassination
    President John F. Kennedy was in a motorcade at Dealey Plaza in Dallas Texas. He was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was standing in the Texas Schoolbook Depository, and shot JFK who was with his wife and John Connally and his wife. Oswald was killed by Jack Ruby before he could stand trial, so not too much was proved about this shooting.

    The Hippie Movement
    This movement started to become popular in the mid 1960's. The Hippies were young people who lived life a different way than a normal person would. They were highly against the war in Vietnam as well and most people think this is the reason they are doing what they’re doing. Hippies moved away from society and did things their ways. They did this by dressing up differently, growing their hair and beards to be long, talking differently, and using illegal substances.

    Tonkin Gulf Resolution
    This is a resolution that Congress passed which gave the president the authority to use military tactics and force for defense in Vietnam. The result of this was the US getting involved in the Vietnam War. The main reason for this resolution being passed was because President Johnson reported that American ships had been attacked by North Vietnam gunboats in the Gulf of Tonkin.   • Robet F. Kennedy Assassination

    Robet F. Kennedy Assassination
    Robert F. Kennedy was at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles giving a speech to his supporters after winning the Presidential primary election in California and South Dakota. As he was leaving the hotel he was shot three times at the Hotel’s Kitchen. After investigation, Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of this crime. (The War Divides America Chapter 29 Section 3)
  • First American Astronauts Walk on the Moon

    First American Astronauts Walk on the Moon
    Neil Armstrong, Micheal Collins, and Edwin Aldrin Jr were the crew of Apollo 11. Apollo 11 was the first to land on the moon. Armstrong was the first person to actually get out and walk on the moon. After exploration, the crew left a United States flag to show accomplishment for the USA.
  • Ping-Pong Diplomacy

    Ping-Pong Diplomacy
    This event was the first contacts between the US and communist China. The American Ping-Pong team was in Japan for the 31st World Table Tennis Championship. They then received an invitation to play ping pong and ever since then, people started calling this the ping pong diplomacy because of the good relations between the US and China.

    George Wallace Assasination Attempt
    George Wallace was at a campaign rally in Laurel. He got shot four times at close range. After investigation of different agencies, agents and detectives concluded that Arthur Bremer was the failed gunman of this crime. He was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring where he survived his injuries.

    Watergate Scandal
    This was a political scandal that involved five men breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Complex. After a long investigation, the government found out that President Nixon was involved with this scandal. It was also found out that members of the Committee to reelect the president were also involved in this. After the investigation Nixon resigned as president.   • Hurricane Carmen

    Hurricane Carmen
    This was a tropical cyclone that took eight peoples lives and devastated people ever since then. This hurricane started in Africa and moved westward toward the U.S. The main problem of the hurricane was the heavy rainfall and wind gusts. Gusts were as high as 86 mph, so farmers crops were basically all destroyed.

    John Lennon Assassination
    John Lennon took four of five shots fired from a .38 caliber in his left shoulder and two in upper left side of his back. He was assassinated by Mark David Chapman. The thing that people thought was too good to be true was that this suspect had gotten his autograph earlier that evening before Lennon stepped into his limo.

    Ronald Reagan Assasination Attempt
    The attempt of assassination took place sixty nine days into Reagan’s presidency. He had just finished giving a speech to a group of trade unionists. Reagan was outside the Washington Hilton Hotel waiting for his vehicle when John Hinckley Jr. opened fire. He was hit by one bullet, which punctured his lung, but after treatment he survived.
