The Red Scare was the widespread fear of Communism and occurred during the cold war. Federal employees were being questioned about whether or not they were loyal to the government. McCarthyism rose as Senator Joseph McCarthy accused people of being Communist spies and other allegations without any real evidence. -

The Vietnam War was a long war lasting from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was supported by Communist China, and South Vietnam was supported by the United States. -
Rise of the KKK
The Klu Klux Klan emerged during the civil rights movement and as a result bombed black schools and black churches. Violence broke out between the KKK and black and white activists mainly in the South. -
JFK Assassination
John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 while riding in a presidential motorcade. It devastated many Americans and was considered the first assassination of a world figure that occurred during the age of television. -
Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 established a new immigration policy that reunited immigrants families and increased skilled labor in the United States. As a result of this new law, many immigrants from countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America rather than Europe. -
Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was an African American protest group founded on October 15, 1966 after the assassination of black nationalist Malcolm X and the shooting of Matthew Johnson. Their protests were violent and they would monitor police activities. They also instituted a number of social programs and disliked the Vietnam war. -

The Ping Pong Diplomacy was a series of table tennis matches between the United States and China in the 1970s. This made Richard Nixon the first president to visit Communist China. It was also rumored that The Ping Pong Diplomacy was how China used table tennis as a tool for Communist propaganda. -

Apollo 17 marked the end on December 7, 1972 of mission that took 12 people to the moon. After the mission launched, public interest decreased and the government had shifted its focus on the Vietnam War. -

The Watergate Scandal was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee that took place at the Watergate Hotel and involved five men as well as Richard Nixon. This scandal eventually led to the resignation of Nixon in 1974 and caused many people to question the American government. -

The attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan was done by John Hinckley Jr. on March 30, 1981 as they were leaving a speaking engagement. Other than Reagan, three others were shot and wounded. As a result of this, Reagan received more support and affection from Americans. -

Hurricane Hugo was a Cape Verde hurricane that eventually reached Southeast United States. It also caused widespread damage and loss of life to Guadeloupe, Saint Croix, and Puerto Rico
