    It was passed with the purpose of aiding Western Europe, by giving over $12 billion in economic assistance to help rebuild Western European economies after the end of World War II.

    Following the North becoming Communist and the South remaining Capitalist, each side had wanted to unify the country but a full on civil war began after the North invaded and captured the South's capital of Seoul. It became an international conflict when the United States and United Nations sent troops to help the South and China began helping the North.

    It was fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was supported by the Soviet Union, China and North Korea, while South Vietnam was supported by the United States, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the Philippines. It fought a guerrilla war against the anti-communist forces in the South.

    A group of nine African American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Their enrollment was followed by the Little Rock Crisis, Governor Orval Faubus announced that he would call in the Arkansas National Guard to prevent the African-American students' entry to Central High, claiming this action was for the students' own protection.

    It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, with the purpose of overcoming legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
