Birth of Gump & KKK
Forrest was born near small town Greenbow, Alabama. Father was absent. Forrest was named after his ancestor Nathan Bedford Forrest, the first wizard of the KKK, to remind him "sometimes we all do things that just don't make no sense". -
Gump met Elvis
Elvis stayed at Forrest's mother's bed and breakfast and this is where Elvis learned his famous dance. Forrest was dancing to Elvis playing the guitar and Forrest taught him how to do it. Around a year later Elvis became a star and used that same dance to further his fame. -
Integration of UOA
On this day, Forrest witnessed his college, UOA, integrate their school. He was seen in he news picking up a school book of one of the young black women and trying to return it to her by following her into the school. -
JFK Assassination
Forrest talks about the assassination of president JFK, killed during a parade in Dallas, Texas. Forrest had met him after college football. -
Forrest in Vietnam War
Forrest fought in the Vietnam War, and was shot in the butt trying to save his fellow soldiers. He then was in recovery when he won a medal of honor. -
Peace Protests in DC
After receiving the medal of honor Forrest accidentally entered the protests and was asked about the war. He answered what the war was like but the good thing was that the mic was not working so no one was able to hear what he had said about the war. -
Moon Landing
The moon landing was playing in the background as Forrest played table tennis touring around the country visiting war vets. He was showing vets there was more to do. -
Ping Pong Diplomacy
Forrest played in the ping pong diplomacy against China to show peace between our two countries. -
Watergate
The Watergate Scandal was when members of Nixon's administration were involved in illegal activities such as wiretapping political opponents, and the break in at DNC headquarters. 48 of Nixon's administration were found guilty and Nixon resigned from his presidency rather than be impeached. After Nixon resigned Gerald Ford became president. -
Ford assassination attempt
The second attempt to assassinate him is shown on a television newscast being watched by Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan aboard the shrimping boat Jenny. -
John Lenon assassination
Forrest mentions the assassination of John Lenon. Singer of the Beatles. Forrest met John on a late night talk show. After the war. -
AIDS/HIV
Forrest Gump's childhood friend, love interest, and later, wife. Jenny would later die of an unknown disease but would be known as AIDS or HIV.
