Iren Tsekhanovetsky is kidnapped from her family's home in Vyborg, Russia, and disappears.

Katya's older sister, Iren, is found. She is the wife of the new Syndicate leader, Mikhail Voronovich. Iren was one of Liliya's kidnappers, and reveals to Katya that she had set up her kidnapping. Iren also reveals Liliya's location, but warns then that time is almost up. Katya learns she has a neice named Lana.

Book #1 ends, and Book #2 "Light Within Darkness" begins. The final chapter depicts Katya, Daniil, Ai, and Svetlana, and Calum going to find Liliya. Nikolai has been taken to Ukraine by Iren and Lana (not voluntarily), but the rest don't know that, and think that the Ragonov Syndicate has killed him. The book ends with Katya and Ai sitting on a train to Siberia, staring out at the dying countryside.

The book opens with Katya and Ai wandering around Krasnoyarsk, the city they have been staying in, and that Liliya is supposedly in. They run into someone Katya thought she would never see again, and Katya questions whether Liliya and Nikolai are still alive.

Liliya is found in a village outside Krasnoyarsk with no memory.

The other characters arrive at Krasnoyarsk and begin to fight the Ragonov Syndicate. Katya learns Iren has had a son, Alexei, who is in Novgorod. She, as well as Ai, Aysel, and Lula, are sent to kill both Lana and Alexei.

Katya's mother, Anastasia, dies of typhoid fever in Vyborg. Katya learns she has a brother, Stanislav, who her mother had in an affair. She also learns that her father, Ruslan Tsekhanovetsky had been killed by Stanislav's father and not died from pneumonia. She agrees to meet with Stanislav.

Lana Voronvich flees Novgorod in fear of being killed. Katya finds her in the nearby city of Kazan. Lana joins Katya, not knowing Katya has been sent to kill her.

Katya is sent to Odessa, Ukraine, with Ai, Svetlana, Calum, Will, Forge, Frank, Lorde, and Lily. There she finds out that Nikolai is alive, but similarly to Liliya, his memory has been wiped clean. She learns from a sneering Iren that he isn't in Odessa, and she and Ai set off during the night to look for him.

Ai finds Nikolai in Kyiv, Ukraine. She urgently calls Katya, who slowly makes her way through the winding streets of Kyiv, stopping to stare at the guardian angel of Kyiv.

As soon as Katya, Ai, and Nikolai return to Odessa, Frank corners Katya. He makes advances on her, which she turns down, claiming that Nikolai will never remember her. She is put off by the desperation in him, and tells him to not talk to her anymore.

Liliya regains her memory, and is confused about the past few months. She is upset to learn what happened to her, as well as Nikolai, and vows to kill Iren and Mikhail.

Katya and Stanislav finally meet in St. Peterburg, again. Liliya is there when he arrives, but then promptly leaves the room.

Lana kipnaps her brother, Alexei, claiming that her mother has gone insane. Katya is unsure of what to do with the children, especially when they are legally ruled in her care after the disappearance of their father and the insanity of their mother.

Alena and Ivan Lobanov get married, and Katya's oldest sister agrees to take legal care of Lana and Alexei. Katya feels distraught after Lana tells her that she wants to be like Katya when she grows up.

Bombs go off in the Kremlin, and the characters are all sent to Moscow to guard the president. Katya finds herself uncomfortable with the president's son, Sergei, who constantly flirts with her.

Sergei is killed in another explosive attack, and Katya is severely injured.

Book #2 ends, and the final chapter depicts Katya being rushed to the hospital. Katya's last vision is of Alena's scared face, and how much it looks like her mother.

Book #3, "Unichtozheno (Destroyed)", begins with Katya waking up after a year long coma. She is disoriented as she readjusts to life. She learns that Lana has visited her everyday, and that Liliya and Daniil have gotten together. She and Nikolai (FINALLY) kiss on an overlook of Moscow. She then learns that civil war has broken out within the major cities. Moscow is in a terrible state, and St. Petersburg isn't fairing much better.

Ai kills the new leader of the Ragonov Syndicate, throwing the Syndicate into turmoil.

Katya learns that Iren has been killed, and that the Ragonov Syndicate has been dissolved.

The civil war finally ends after a final battle. Ai and Nikolai become the new co-leaders of Russia.

Years into the future, in the epilogue chapters, Katya is attending Ai and Quill's wedding. She and Nikolai are engaged, as well as Liliya and Daniil. The country has been restored to temporary peace.

Daniil and Liliya get married in Minsk, Belarus.

Katya marries Nikolai and they move to Ukraine. Ai and Quill have moved to Japan, and Liliya and Daniil are living in Minsk, Belarus.

The first child of Ai and Quill is born in Tokyo, Japan.

Katya and Nikolai's first child, Anastasia, named for Katya's mother, is born in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Tatiana, the first and only child of Liliya and Daniil, is born.

Mikhail Kravchenko, Katya and Nikolai's second child, is born in Kyiv, Ukraine. He is named in honor of Nikolai's father, who was killed in the Civil War.

Elena Getts is born.

Katherine Getts, the final child of Ai and Quill, is born.
