Football Genius By: Tim Green

  • Troy's Backstory

    Troy's Backstory
Troy is a sixth grader that lives in Georgia and never knew his dad but lives with his mother. His friends consist of Tate and Nathan. He is second string quarterback behind the coaches kid. The coach and his kid are both mean and think they rule the world. The coaches kid is named Jamie. When I read this section I felt almost connected with Troy because I have known what it feels like to be second behind a coaches kid.
  • Premise Of The Story

    Premise Of The Story
The story that I read for my grading period five IR project is Football Genius by Tim Green. The story takes place in Atlanta, Georgia where Troy lives with his single mom. The main characters of this story are Troy, Tate, Nathan, Seth Halloway, Troy's mom, and Jamie. I chose this book because I like sports books and thought I should maybe stray away from all the Mike Lupica books for a while.
  • His Predicting Gift

    His Predicting Gift
Troy has the amazing ability to predict a football play before they occur. His gift propels him to achieve major goals that occur later in the book. He will eventually use this to become famous (This is not a portion of the book but more of an informative slide that I will not use for the total of 10 event slides).
  • Showing Off

    Showing Off
Troy wants to show off to Jamie by saying he has an Official Falcons Football when he doesn't. So to keep his promise that he does he steals one from pro football player Seth Holloway. Troy stole from him because he could easily apoligize with his mom having a job with the Falcons. When i read this section I felt uneasy because he is doing something very risky and I am not much of a risk taker myself.
  • Cowboys VS Falcons Continued...

    Cowboys VS Falcons Continued...
    Continued
The Cowboys ending up winning because the head coach did not listen to Troy. This meant that Troy had to give Jamie the ball that was stolen from Troy's idol, Seth Halloway. While I read this section I felt a bit of suspense not knowing what the outcome of this close game was going to be.
  • Cowboys VS Falcons

    Cowboys VS Falcons
Essentially this portion of the book is big because it is about a huge turning point in Troy's life. Troy and Jamie (Coaches Kid) have a wager that if the Falcons get beat by the Cowboys Troy has to give Jamie the official ball he stole from Seth Halloway. Troy then makes it on the field to explain to the head coach his amazing predicting capabilities which led to Troy getting kicked out and his mom getting fired from the Falcons staff.
  • Mdinight Express

    Mdinight Express
Tate, Nathan, and Troy all leave their houses at midnight without notifying their parents to see a train that goes straight from Atlanta to Chicago. They all talk about it and when it eventually comes Troy feels a bad feeling because it reminded him of his dad who had moved to Chicago, away from their family. When I read this section I felt a little bit sad for Troy because I do not know how hard it is to lose a family member like that.
  • Seth Helps

    Seth Helps
Troy's mom invites Seth Halloway over to have Troy show him his abilities. They watch a college football game and Troy names off every single play before it actually occured. Seth then tells Troy to go with him to the Falcon's head coach and have Troy show the coach his talent. Troy succumbs under the pressure and can not do it for the coach which leaves Seth disappointed. During this time I felt like the character must have been embarrased and felt sympathetic for that reason.
  • Troy's Redemption

    Troy's Redemption
Seth tells Troy that the coach is ready to give him one more shot at showing what he can do. Troy then succeeds and is told he is going to be working for the Falcons in the next game they play. Troy is super excited after this great news and tells his friends. His friends were also very happy for him. When reading this section of this story I felt a sense of relief knowing that the character was going to be given a second chance that he would then succeed in.
  • Falcons and Troy Joins Together

    Falcons and Troy Joins Together
The Falcons have Troy predict plays for them and their success. Troy helps the Falcons gain more and more popularity due to their recent win streak that they had achieved. The streak would not have been able to be achieved without Troy. This portion of the story made me feel good that Troy was able to help himself and his mom through a tough time.
  • Drama

    Drama
News companies that cover sports such as SportCenter started making stories about Troy and the whole Falcons team all together. The news people try to explain why this is all illegal and that the team should get suspended for cheating. This causes players to get very angry and try to explain why it isn't illegal and it is just that Troy is that smart. This section amde me feel uneasy because everything was going right in Troy's life for once and it all the sudden turns upside down.
  • Relief In Atlanta

    Relief In Atlanta
Justice is served and the Falcon team proved that Troy was gifted and was not a fraud to hide their cheating. Troy and everyone he knows is happy that people are now siding with him and he goes on to celebrate. Seth is extremely proud of Troy for never looking back at the negatives but always focusing on the positives. This part towards the conclusion of this story was heartwarming because everyone sides with the Falcons and Troy once again which is a very good thing.
  • Troy Becomes Famous

    Troy Becomes Famous
After millions of people hear Troy's Story, he becomes very well known in the community of Atlanta, and the United States in general. His fame effects him both negatively and very positively. He does not only share the goodness with himself but his mother also got her job back on the Falcons staff team. This section made me feel both good and sad. Good because the bookj was very exciting and good, but sad because the story was super fast.
  • Epilogue

    Epilogue
Overall this book was very fascinating and I would for sure recommend it to others. The one negative to this book was how believable it was because it was a little too good to be true but besides that, the book was still great. If there was a movie for this book I would most likely end up watching it. Finally, I will read the second book in the trilogy whic is call Football Hero.
