Issue: Students wore arm bands around school to protest the Vietnam war. The school did not like this.
Ruling: It was a form of peaceful protest and freedom of speech the children were given this right under the constitution.
Effects: The students continueed to protest. In this way schools cannot prohibit students freedom of speech and peaceful protest. -

Issue: A man was pulled over on the side of the road and the police went through his phone without a warrant or consent.
Ruling: It was illegal for the officer to do so and the evidence found on the phone could not be used in a court of law.
Effects: The things found on his phone was not used against him and now every officer needs of warrant or consents to search through someone's things.

Issue: A student used sexual slurs and jokes inside one of his speeches. The school did not approve of the speech and he presented it anyways.
Ruling: Schools are allowed to prohibite inappropriate slurs from students speaking.
Effects: Short term) The student who gave the speech was allowed to be punished. Long term) All schools are legally allowed to punish students for using not aproprate slurs and words in their speaking.

Issue: The principal of this school found a few articles in his school newspaper inappropriate but students published them anyways.
Ruling: Schools are allowed to set standards and rules for school newspaper articles.

Morse v Frederick
Issue: student supported the illegal act of using marijuana in a better out of school fundraiser the banner read "bong hits 4 Jesus". Teachers were very upset with this action and did not approve.
Ruling: teachers are allowed to prohibit students promoting a legal actions within school reasons.
Effects: The banner was not allowed to be used again and the students were punished. Schools also now legally can prohibit what students promote within schools.
