  • Washington Enters office President

    Washington Enters office President
    After being chosen by the American people for being a spectacular military leader, George Washington becomes the first president of the United States and is sworn into office in April of 1798.
  • Washington creates the presidential cabinet

    Washington creates the presidential cabinet
    After realizing Washington couldn't take on the preisidency alone he established a presidential cabinet. This cabinet would set a precedent for future presidents, they could receive help and advice making important decisions to ensure something would not go horribly wrong.

    The whiskey rebellion

    The whiskey rebellion was caused when a tax was created on whiskey, this angered southern farmers and they refused to pay the tax. As a result Washington marches thousands of militia through the mountains.
  • Nutrality proclamation with France

    Nutrality proclamation with France
    After Britain went to war with France, America was expected to help Britain. However the United States was allied with France and didn't want to start any trouble. Washington and his cabinet decided neutrality was the way to go.
  • Creation of the cotton gin

    Creation of the cotton gin
    While the north began to mass produce items in factories, the manufacturing of the south was the cotton gin which allowed southern farmers (slaves) to remove the seeds and dirt from cotton much much faster. The cotton gin was created in March of 1794 by Eil Whitney (an inventor)

    The jay treaty was made to relieve post war tension between Britain and the US. The tensions had been left unresolved since the American independence. Both the United States and Great Britain signed the treaty in hope to preserve balance between the two countries.

    The XYZ Affair was a political and diplomatic episode in 1797 and 1798, early in the administration of John Adams, involving a confrontation between the United States and Republican France that led to an undeclared war called the Quasi-War.
  • Alien and sedition acts

    Alien and sedition acts
    The alien and sedition acts secured the national security of the United States against foreign threats. The alien and sedition acts consisted of four bills signed into law by president John Adams in the summer of 1798. The acts were designed primarily against the French who were a possible threat to United States security.
  • Jefferson was elected president

    Jefferson was elected president
    Jefferson as president had the goals of a farming utopia and to reduce the size of army, navy, and the importance of national bank. Jefferson became the third president of the United States on March fourth 1801.
  • Marbury V madison

    Marbury V madison
    Marbury was appointed a supreme court justice on one of the final days of a persidential term. When the time came for him the be a supreme court justice they wouldnt let him because it was too late. He brought his case to the sipreme court but there was nothing they could do because he didnt fo through any lower courts. This supports the constitution and would have a long term effect of a different political part judge.
  • Lousiana purchase

    Lousiana purchase
    "The Louisiana Purchase (French: Vente de la Louisiane "Sale of Louisiana") was the acquisition of the Louisiana territory (828,000 square miles) by the United States from France in 1803." The land aquired by the lousiana purchase did not become states for a while however the lousiana purchase is about 1/3 of the current United States and was only purchased for a few million dollars.

    Embargo of 1807
    The embargo of 1807 blocked all exports in the US so France and Britain would respect American rights. The embargo was a war strategy for the US whole France and Britain were in war though nothing good came out of it.
  • Lincoln elected presidential

    Lincoln elected presidential
    Lincoln becomes the 16th president of the United states in February 1809 and would be a valued asset in the revolutionary way.
  • Jeffersons presidency ended

    Jeffersons presidency ended
    in March of 1809 Jeffersons presidency came to an end and he would soon be replaced by another president.
  • Missouri compermise

    Missouri compermise
    With 11 free states and 10 slave states, Missouri being added into the union as a free state would surely upset the balance in congress. The United States would be "split in half" all new states would be free if from the north and slave states if from the south.
  • Indian removal act

    Indian removal act
    Indian tribes were removed from federal territory and relocated west of the Mississippi River. As an attempt to preserve the "civil United States" the "savage" Indians would need to move out of federal territory and were forcibly relocated in May of 1830.
  • Cherokee nation appeal

    Cherokee nation appeal
    As a result of the Indian removal act the Cherokees were saddened and did not want to leave the land of their ancestors. The Cherokees visited the Supreme Court and explained how the act made them feel, however the United States would not change their mind.
  • Second annual message

    Second annual message
    "Andrew Jackson's Second Annual Message, was delivered on December 6, 1830 to U.S. Congress. He informs them of his progress with the removal plan, stating that is moving ahead smoothly and explaining how it benefits everyone involved."
  • Worcester vs Georgia

    Worcester vs Georgia
    President Jackson wanted to move all of the native americans out of US territory, the native americans did not want to move from the land of their ancestors and they presented their case to the supreme court. The supreme court rulled with values of human life and liberty rulling that the natives could stay. However ajackson abused his power and kicked them out anyway. The effects of this desicion would be many natives would die and less would reamin in the east.

    The Native amaricans living in the United States were forced by president Jackson to move out of american territory, the natives brought this case to the supreme court and they rulled in favor of them. However Jackson ended up abusing his power and they moved anyway.
  • Nullification crisis

    "South Carolina, in particular, acted out against the Tariff of 1828. South Carolinans campaigned heavily against the tariff, justifying their arguments with the principles set out in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions written in the previous century by Jefferson and Madison to support states’ rights. They also supported their case by arguing that the U.S. Constitution allowed states to individually nullify federal laws for the whole union."
  • Annexation of texas

    Annexation of texas
    Texas was admitted as the 28th state in the union after leaving Mexico and becoming its own country, this angered Mexico because the United States used it as an excuse to steal land. This ultimately would start the Mexican American war.
  • The people's republic of Texas

    The people's republic of Texas
    Texas, disliking their country of Mexico. Decided to make their own country in February of 1846. This country would become the people's republic of Texas, separate from any other country.

    When Texas was admitted into the United States, the US took more land than just Texas. This was harmful to Mexico and started the Mexican American war, later to be resolved by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and a decisive United States victory.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot Proviso was designed to eliminate slavery within the land acquired as a result of the Mexican War. It was put in to place in August of 1846 and was crippling to the slavery portion of the country.
  • California "Gold Rush"

    California "Gold Rush"
    After gold was found in California hundreds of people traveled to California in search of gold and wealth. This lasted for 7 whole years!
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    "The compromise of 1850 defused a four-year political confrontation between slave and free states regarding the status of territories acquired during the Mexican-American War." The line of compromise from the Missouri compromise would no longer work.
  • Kansas Neberaska act

    The Kansas Nebraska act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide weather or not they wanted slaves without the federal government getting involved.
  • "Bleeding Kansas"

    bleeding Kansas was a term to describe the fighting and war in Kansas territory after the Kansas Nebraska act. It lasted untill around 1861 with people fighting over the slavery status of the Kansas territory.
  • Dred Scott V Sandford

    Dred Scott V Sandford
    A slave by the name of Dred Scott wanted freedom and believed he was a valid citizen, he told the supreme court that he should have the same rights as white citizens and the supreme court rulled that slaves are not citizens. This supports the "value" of slave labor and the long term effect is that it would set civil rights back even further. The short term effect is slaves would not have rights.

    In less than 1 year 13 states seceded from the United States because of the civil war. The secessions were threatening to the future of the United States.
  • Suspension of habeas corpus

    Suspension of habeas corpus
    For precautionary measures in the civil war president Lincoln suspended habeas corpus and no prisoners were allowed to exit jail for any reason, even if they were wrongly accused.
  • Emancipation proclamation

    Emancipation proclamation
    In September of 1861 president Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation freeing the slaves in rebel states, as the nation entered the third year of one of the worst wars in history. This angered the rebel states and would cause even worse war. The emancipation proclamation was a milestone in American history.

    Over 22 thound were killed in this battle. Fough mostly in the south, George McClellan army invaded confederate forces under the command of Robert E Lee. Neither the Union or the Confederacy won the battle

    Known as the turning point of the Civil War, Confederate and Union troops battle in Gettysburg Pennsylvania.

    President Abarham Lincoln told the people in Gettysburg, after the Battle of Gettysburg that the country could not survive divided

    One of the last battle in the civil war in which Robert Lee of the Confederact surrendered 28000 troops to the Union.

    The 13th ammendment to the United States Constitution prevents slavery.
  • Marinda V Arizona

    Marinda V Arizona
    When Miranda was detained he did not know what rights he had under police custody he ended up admitting to a crime because he did not know the fifth ammendment. When he realized he could have remained silent he went to the supreme court, and the supreme court overturned a previous courts decision eventually rulling that when you are detained your rights must be read to you. This would have a lasting impact because people would now need to know their rights.
  • Tinker V Des Moines

    Tinker V Des Moines
    Students at a school in Des Moines wore arm bands to school supporting the US army, the school had a strict dress code and suspended the students for wearing the armbands. The tinker family was upset by this and he fought the school in a legal battle going all the way to the supreme court. The supreme court rulled that the teachers could not prevent the students from wearing the wrist bands because it violated their free speach.
  • Bethel High School V Fraiser

    Bethel High School V Fraiser
    A student at Bethel High School named fraizer used sexual metaphors in a school speech, the school was angered by this and got him in trouble. Fraizer thought this violated his free speech and took his case to the supreme court. The court rulled that schools can restrict obscenity and it is not free speech. This supports the values of school restrictions and short term people would stop doing inappropriate things in school.
  • Hazelwood School District V Kulhmeier

    Hazelwood School District V Kulhmeier
    Students at a school in the Hazelwood School district created a school newspaper trash talking some of the school faculty, the princapel of the school removed the newspaper and the students thought this violated their right to free speech. The case was heard by the supreme court and it was rulled that teachers can limit free speech of students when it is distracting.

    Morse V Frederick
    Morse, a school student, created a sign that said bong hits for jesus and he held it up at a school fundraizer that wasnt on school grounds. The school administrarion had him suspended so he argued to the supreme court that his speech was being violated. The supreme court rulled that even though he wasnt on school proptery he was at a school event and the teachers are allowed to make sure he dosent support illegal activity.

    When Riley was detained the police searched his phone without a warrent and found evidence that he had comitted a more serious crime of being in a gand. Riley found it unjust that they could search his phone without a warrent so he oresented his case to the supreme court. The supreme court Rulled that a warrent is needed to search through someones cellphone. This supports the values of freedom and has a longterm affect of police getting more warrents for things
