Flower Baby

  • sensorimotor (birth- 2 years)

In this stage children explore using their senses. Also in this stage object permanence starts to develop at 8 months along with stranger anxiety.
  • preoperational (2-7 years)

During this stage egocentrism takes place. Pretend play helps to overcome egocentrism. Children have issues recognizing things with words and instead, work to demonstrate with pictures. However, they still have issues with conservation.
  • concrete operational (7-12 years)

This is the stage where children begin to develop the concept of conservation and begin to process and learn mathematical formations. They also begin to think logically.
  • formal operation (12 years- adulthood)

In this stage they begin to test the hypothesis (what if...). They also begin developing religious beliefs and also start to think abstractly; for example putting themselves into other people's situations.
