In 1960, Civil Rights laws made it illegal for men to degrade and comment on what a female flight attendant looked like. Therefore, the airline industry could not hire a women who had children, was above a certain weight, and they couldn't hire a women who was married, either. -
The 'Groovy' Age of Flight Attendants
From 1960-1970, times changed really quickly for flight attendants in a matter of just a few short years. In 1971, the National Organization of Women went on a big protest for people who were degrading female flight attendants. They used the "Fly Me" slogan and demanded men to get on the act, too. -
