Operation Desert Sheid Begins
On August 7, the United States forces started entering into Kuwait. Along with that 500,000 United States troops were put in Saudi Arabia for safety, just in case Iraq tried to invade Saudi Arabia for even more oil control. -
President H.W. Bush Officially Decides to Help Kuwait
On August 20, President H. W. Bush signed National Security Directive 45, which stated that there would be immediate and complete withdrawal of Iraqi troops and restoration of Kuwait’s government. -
The U.N. warns Iraq to Evacuate Kuwait by January 15, 1991
The U.N. Security Council Resolution 678, followed on November 29, 1990, stating and warning Iraq, that if they did not move troops out of Kuwait by January 15, 1991, there would be a United States led coalition to drive them out. The United States also warned them that if they did not leave, they would “ face an attack by the multi-national force”. -
Operation Desert Sheild Becomes Operation Desert Storm
January 15 came and went, but Iraqi troops did not evacuate Kuwait. The next night, Operation Desert Shield became Desert Storm. -
First Attack on Iraqi Military in Kuwait
On January 17, at 3 a.m. , Kuwait time, America, along with many other countries such as Australia, Afghanistan, Bahrain, The United Kingdom, Belgium, Bangladesh, Egypt, France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Syria, Poland, Qatar, Oman, Rumania, Niger, and the U.A.E, started air attacks on Iraqi military targets. -
Iraqi Military ignites Oil Wells in Kuwait
On February 23, the Iraqi military ignited an estimated 700 oil wells causing huge fires. -

Kuwait City Declared Liberated
On February 27, Kuwait City was declared liberated, most of the Iraqi military driven back into Iraq. -
Cease-fire terms Officially Accepted
The cease-fire terms were officially accepted by Iraq on April 6. -
War Declared Officially Over
On February 28, the war was considered officially over. But, as the Iraqis left, they had taken millions of dollars of valuables and dumped oil into the Persian Gulf, harming the environment. -
Cease-fire Terms Negotiated
On March 1, the cease-fire terms were negotiated in Safwan, Iraq. -
Operation Provide Comfort Begins
On April 7, the United States started Operation Provide Comfort, which defended Kurds fleeing their homes in Northern Iraq. It delivered 72,000 pounds of supplies in the first six operations. -
Cease-fire Term Begins
On April 11, the cease-fire terms took effect.
