    in 1806 James Madison was elected president. He is known as the "Father of the Constitution". He served two terms from 1808-1816.

    The War of 1812 was when America declared war on Britain. America did this because Great Britain was impressing American sailors and occupying posts that were ordered to be abandoned. America tried to invade Canada 3 times but all failed.

    James Monroe was the 5th president of the U.S. He is known for the Monroe Doctrine which tell Europe to leave the Western Hemisphere alone. He died on July 4th 1831 at the age of 73.

    Missouri settlers applied for statehood which caused a lot of debate in congress. Henry Clay then stated that anything below the Latitude 36o 30o would be slave and anything above would be free. This helped and released tension which other wise would have started a early Civil War.
