  • Reasons why government choose to move convicts to Australia

    The Government had to move these criminals somewhere else because they were running out of room to put them and other places disagree of taking some convicts. The government has to pay a lot of money to make new boats the keep the convicts in. Many sicknesses were spread due to the lack of space around the place. If the government let out some convicts early to make room it will be unfair to the other convicts.

    England was chaos! criminals over filled the jails. The government even turned large ships into jails. This was due to so much poverty around England. Many of the criminals were brought to jail due to petty crimes. E.g. Stealing milk.

    The effect of arrival on Aboriginal

    When the first fleet arrived many Aboriginals were shocked to see their arrival as they were in isolation for 40,000 years. One of the negative effects if their arrival is that the Aboriginals suffered from sicknesses such as chicken pox. Soon the Aboriginals suffered loss of their land as the White started chopping done trees to make shelter. Aboriginals were treated unfairly as their tribe started to go down due to the White killing them and were never charged.
  • Second fleet

    The second fleet came with 5 boats and 1 supply boat. The ships were intended to reach in 1789 however they failed to reach the destination. One boat didn't arrive and may were delayed. When they arrived many convicts were sick and some couldn't even walk. Those who can't walk were thrown over board. All of the convicts were found to be covered in lice. At least 486 were sick and 124 died shortly.
  • Spearing of Governor Phillip

    Governor Phillip was speared by one of the native warriors for punishment. The spearing was for revenge as the aboriginal did it because of the taking of one their tribe was taken. We know its revenge as the spear the Aboriginal used was not designed to instantly kill.
  • The loss of many criminals

    The amount of convicts at the end of this month revealed the 94 men and 9 women were missing. Most of them died and only little returned.
  • Governor Davey's peace law between aboriginal

    Governor Davey makes peace between aboriginals by making laws for both groups. (If an Aboriginal kills an white he is hanged and if an white kills an aboriginal he's hanged as well.

    Alexander Pearce's story

    Alexander Pearce was a Irish convict who escaped prison 7 times. During one of his escapes he escaped Macquarie Harbour Penal Station with 7 other convicts.(Alexander Dalton, Thomas Bodenham, William Kennerly, Matthew Travers, Edward Brown, Robert Greenhill and John Mather) They went for 8 days soon being exhausted and very hungry.Sppn they decided to eat their fellow convicts flesh He was caught at Hobart town with two balters Davis and Cheetham. He was however only charged for stealing sheep.

    He escaped prison again with another convict called Thomas Cox. Thomas died when Alexander Killed him and started feasting on his flesh. He was caught and hanged.
