John Hanson Dies
John Hanson was the first President of the US in Congress Assembled, making him not only the first President, but the first black president of the US. He is said to have been undocumented due to being mulatto (half white and half black). -
Marshal Fredrick Douglas
President Rutherford B. Hayes appointed Frederick Douglass as the first black U.S. Marshal. His jurisdiction is the District of Columbia, this caused a great outbreak of many different events to occur and opened African American's eyes to the greater possibilities. -
NAACP Was Founded
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) strived to abolish all forced segregation, the use of the 14th and 15th amendments, equal education for blacks and complete enfranchisement (voting rights) of all black men. -
Emmit Till
Emmitt was a young teenage black boy who was found floating dead in a lake. He was found to be murdered after "whistling at a white woman". His mother fought to have an open casket funeral to show America what their "equality" truly was. The woman later confessed to making up the story that resulted in his death. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks got onto a segregated bus and sat in the "Whites Only" section. She refused to move no matter what anyone said and was arrested for doing so. She died in October of 2005."All I was doing was trying to get home from work." -
Greensboro Sit-In
The Greensboro Four were four black men who staged the first sit-in at Greensboro: Ezell Blair Jr., David Richmond, Franklin McCain and Joseph McNeil. They began a revolution of sit-ins in Greensboro. -
Malcolm X Assassination
Malcolm X was an African American activist who believed violence was needed to get the results blacks desired. He encouraged many, and despite the violent manner he partook in, he has made a huge impact on the black community. "The future belongs to those who prepare for it today." -
Black Panthers Established
Huey P. Newton founded the Panthers originally had a purpose of patrolling African American neighbourhoods to protect residents from police brutality. This later became a political party of solely African American people for "self-defense". -
Martin Luther King Jr Assassination
Dr. King was a big part of the Civil Rights Movement. He was passionate about the true freedom of people of color. He lead peaceful protests and gave many speeches his most known being "I Have a Dream". " Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -
