DEVELOPMENT
What is film development? Film Development is "the first stage in which the ideas for the film are created, rights to books/plays are bought etc., and the screenplay is written. Financing for the project has to be sought and greenlit" So Basically this is when the first ideas and planning is made for the film, e.g. rough ideas of plotline. -
what is film treatment?
What is Treatment? Treatment is the transition from development (first ideas) and is put in more detail. You end up with a first outine of what your film is about and could potentially have a draft of what your film is about. e.g. screen play for a motion picture. These can sometimes be in more detail and could include things like dectorial style. Normally they outline the actual events in the film to make sure it makes sense and flows in an understandable manner for the audience. -

Image, Tilte, Logline, Synopsis, Project background, Treatment, Target audience, Distribution strategy, Marketing stratedy, Fundraising stratedy, Timetable, Key personnel, Advisor bios, Budget summary, Legalese. -
what is development hell?
Development hell is a state during which a film remains in development without progressing to production. All concepts, and ideas are stranded and takes an especially long time to start up again or never does. Projects in development hell are not officially cancelled, but worked on slowly. -
PRE-PRODUCTION
This begins once a project has been given the green light. At this stage, finalizing preparations for production go into effect. Financing will be sorted out and cast members, director and cinematographer are set. By the end of pre-production, the screenplay is finalized.
During pre-production, the script is broken down into individual scenes and all the locations, props, cast members, costumes, special effects and visual effects are identified. -
the casting process
The casting director and the producer make a list of the types of actors they need for their production. This list is then sent out to the public or specific actors or actresses the director want. After they get back applications for the part, they are sent portfolios of the actors who best fit the roles. The portfolios may contain a resume, photographs or video footage of past performances. They are then called to audition and the casting pannel select the acts to play each character. -
production design
In film a production designer is the person responsible for the overall look of the film. Production designers have one of the key creative roles in the creation of motion picture. They work directly with the director and producer and select the settings and style to visually tell the story. -
storyboards
Storyboards are graphic organizers in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture.
Elements of it include:
Story, Characters, Dialogue, Time frame and Camera details. -
what is a location recce?
It is a pre-filming visit to a location to work out its suitability for shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues. -
PRODUCTION
Principal photography: This is the phase of film production in which the movie is actually filmed.
Role of a cinematographer: The chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film and responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions. -
A Typical Day on Set
6:45 a.m. Your key crew shows up and reviews the days shooting schedule.
7:00 a.m. First call. Breakfast is had. Crew starts setting up and actors start getting made up and dressed.
8:00 a.m. Light for the first shot using stand-ins, usually crew members who aren't otherwise busy.
8:30 a.m. On set rehearsals for the actors. Start with individual shots of actors as they finish their makeup and dressing.
9:00 a.m. First shot of the day. This continues until director is satisfied. -
...Typical Day Continued
1:00 p.m. Break for lunch.
1:30 p.m. Back to work.
7:30 p.m. Wrap for the day. If you will be continuing into the evening then provide a hot dinner and get back to work at 8:00 PM. Otherwise:
8:00 p.m. Everyone finishes their notes for the day and settles on a schedule for tomorrow.
8:30 p.m. Everything is secured and put away for the night. -
POST-PRODUCTION
Post-production is the work done on a film after the filming has taken place. -
Editors Responsibilities
A film editor is the person who removes unneeded clips and fits pieces of film together to make a finished movie.
Being a film editor requires hours of looking through footage and then assembling the neccisary footage to create a well-flowing film. -
what is sound design?
It is the process of specifying, acquiring, manipulating or generating audio elements. -
Job of a Foley Artist
Foley artists tries to recreate the ambient sounds that the film portrays, as an act to make the film more realistic to the viewer. They may choose to enhance the auditory experience of the movie by including foley also. -
DISTRIBUTION
what is a distribution territory?
Distrubution territory is where (what country) the film will be shown. -
What is vertical and horizontal integration?
Vertical interigation is when an institution has shares or owns each part of the production and distribution process.
Horizontal integration is where the organisation develops by buying their competetors in the same section of market.
how can it help a movie?
It can help a movie by improving its publicity. -
what is a release date?
A release date is the date that a movie will be released, this is significant because it lets the public know when the movie will be released. -
EXHIBITION
what is a multiplex?
It is a cinema with more that one screen showing different movies at different times. -
independent cinemas
Independent cinemas are cinemas that show films that are made outside of a traditonal studio and/or made by independent film makers. -

Everyman has a chain of different cinemas in different locations. They are an independant cinema company that show the most recent films to have come out.
