They where introduced due to the fact that films that had violence could be seen by any curious kid. Now wit this an employee at the theater could refuse a guest a ticket if they didn't fall under the right age group. Motion Picture Ratings are even still use today. -

The steadycam made it so film makers can actively hold the camera while filming a shot to add the the scene. It could be used in an action scene to make it seem your actual there. It provided more freedom to the film makers because the camera wast stuck in one location for a whole scene. -
Toy Story
Toy Story was the first all CGI film mad by Pixar. It paved the way for technological advancements in animation and film. In addition it brought Pixar into the limelight, and had made it so they can make other advancements in the industry. -
