Trenches were used and dug by both the Allies and the Central Powers in order to avoid losing the territory they had gained. They were also built to protect the troops from new weaponry (such as rifles, and artillery) which proved to be very lethal. -
Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
A German submarine sinks a British ocean liner called the RMS Lusitania, which was designed to transport people from one sea port to another according to a schedule. German U-boats were used to attack the Allies trade routes. -
