Battle of Bunker Hill
The commanders were Robert Pigot and William Howe. It was the first important battle of the American War of Independence. The British won the battle but they suffered heavy casualties that the inexperienced colonial forces gained confidence in hopes to defeat the British. -
Battle of Brandywine
The commanders were George Washington and William Howe. The British seized Philadelphia after their victory at Brandywine Creek which would be followed by another British victory at the Battle of Germantown. -
Battle of Saratoga
The commanders were John Burgoyne, Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold. The battlefield in which the British and American Forces fought during the Battles of Saratoga were located near Albany in Saratoga County, New York. The Battles of Saratoga ended in victory for the American colonists. -
Valley Forge
The commander was George Washington. Valley Forge was the military camp 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia where the American Continental Army spent the winter during the American Revolutionary War. Many died because of the freezing cold temperatures and starvation. -
Battle of Charleston
The commanders was Benjamin Lincoln, Mariot Arbuthnot, Benjamin Lincoln and Charles Cornwallis. The British gained control over the South and the Americans lost many soldiers due to the surrender.The battlefield was located in Charleston, South Carolina -
Battle of Camden
The commander was Horatio Gates. The Siege of Charleston ended in victory for the British. American General Horatio Gates arrived in the South and immediately marched for Camden, South Carolina to capture the outpost there. And he was met with experienced British soldiers that easily intimidated the militia that made up two-thirds of the forces led by him, most of them fled before even firing a shot and he had no alternative but to retreat. -
Battle of Kings Mountains
The commander was Patrick Ferguson. Cornwallis invaded North Carolina and ordered Patrick Ferguson to lead an expedition to the settlements on the Alleghany Mountains to get recruits, In about an hour the loyalist had killed or captured every British soldier in the battle, forcing Cornwallis to retreat from North Carolina. It was evident to the British that the American colonists in the South would not like the British. -
Battle of Cowpens
The commander was Daniel Morgan. It had a devastating effect on British morale . The Battle of Cowpens caused Lord Cornwallis to pull troops from South Carolina and move them farther north, leading to Yorktown and the end of the Revolutionary war. -
Battle of Guilford Courthouse
The commander was Nathanael Greene. General Cornwallis made a desperate attempt to capture the Americans, later the British won the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The British sustained heavy casualties and Cornwallis abandoned the Carolinas and marched for Virginia. -
Battle of Yorktown
Charles Cornwallis was the commander. It was a military conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in North America during the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Yorktown ended in victory for the American colonists.
