    Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13th 1926 near Birán, Cuba. Fidel’s Father Ángel Castro y Argiz was an immigrant from Spain. His mother is Lina Ruz Gonzalez which died in August 6th 1963.

    When Fidel attended School and decided what he wanted to do

    Fidel attended Roman Catholic boarding schools in Santiago de Cuba, He then attended a Catholic High School in Belén Havana, where he proved to be a tremendous athlete. During 1945 Fidel decided to go to the School of Law of the University of Havana. FIdel mostly studied politics, in 1947 he joined an unsuccessful attempt by Dominican exiles and Cubans to invade the Dominican Republic and overthrow Gen. Rafael Trujillo.

    Fidel's Suicidal Attack
    In 1953 Fidel organized a rebel force for a certain task. On July 26, 1953, he led about 160 men in a suicidal attack on the Moncada military barracks in Santiago de Cuba in hopes of sparking a popular uprising. Most of the men were killed, and Castro himself was arrested. After a trial in which he conducted an impassioned defense, he was sentenced by the government to 15 years of imprisonment

    On December 2, 1956, Castro and an armed expedition of 81 men landed on the eastern coast of Cuba from the yacht Granma. All of them were killed or captured except Fidel and Raúl Castro, Ernesto (“Che”) Guevara, and nine others.who retreated into the Sierra Maestra to take on guerrilla warfare against the Batista forces. With the help of growing numbers of revolutionary volunteers throughout the island, Fidel Castro’s forces won a string of victories over the Batista governments poorly led army

    Later Urrutia resigned from office and Fidel took over as president. FIdel later made a trade agreement with the soviets, in 1960, which further deepened American distrust. In 1960 economic relations between the United States and Cuba were in danger. In April of 1961 The US assigned Cuban Exiles to overthrow Fidel’s government. In April 1961 The United States Landed their Cuban Exiles on the Bay of Pigs, but Castro’s armed forces completely wiped them out.

    Fidel Still President

    FIdel was still president and in 2003 The National Assembly wanted Castro to serve another term as president, During that year lots of criminals were arrested. On July 31st 2006, Fidel gave up his term as president, to his brother Raul, so Castro can recover from a surgery from a serious intestinal illness. In February 2008, The National Assembly declared Castro as President but Castro did not accept another term for President.
