Suicide Attack and Jail
Castro leads 160 men on an attack on the Moncada military. The majority of the men died, and Fidel Castro is arrested. He ended up having 15 years of imprisonment, but his brother and him got out only after 2 years due to a pardon from the government -
Retreat
Castro and the other survivors of the Granma attack evacuated to the Sierra Maestra to form a guerrilla warfare. They decided it was time to go against Batista’s forces. Their small army grew until it consisted of about 800 guerrillas. -
Granma (Yacht)
Fidel Castro and an armed crew of 81, landed on Cuba’s eastern coast on a yacht named Granma. Everyone except Castro, his brother, and 10 other people were killed. -
Castro vs. Batista
Castro’s guerrilla warfare chased Batista and his amy out of the country. Fidel Castro’s 800 guerrillas had defeated a whole professional army of 30,000, and pushed them out of Cuba. -

The Cuban Missile Crisis starts. It started because of a conflict between the U.S and the Soviet Union. Fidel Castro and a few others took a role in the crisis. -
Bay of Pigs
Bay of Pigs invasion incident occurs. A paramilitary group funded and trained by the CIA failed to overthrow Fidel Castro. The failed invasion strengthens communism in Cuba. This was America's most notorious attempt to overthrow Castro. -

Castro becomes President of the State Council. After his first term, he is elected again for another 5-year term. -
Gives Power to Raul Castro
In 2006, Castro decided it was time to step down from power because he was having illness problems. He gave his power over to his brother, Raul Castro. His bother is still ruling Cuba to this day. -
Death
Fidel Castro dies. He was 90 years old. His brother, Raul Castro, put Fidel’s ashes behind a metal plaque that says FIDEL across it in gold letters. His grave is located at Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.
