First African-American National Officer
Fred McClure, of Texas, was elected to National office. He was the first African-American to do so. -
Julie Smiley was Elected to the National FFA Officer Team
She was the first female FFA national officer. -
First Female National FFA President
Julie Smiley was elected, becoming the first female elected into National FFA President officer position. -
Corey Flourney was Elected
Corey, a member of the Chicago High School for Agriculture Sciences FFA chapter, was elected as the first National FFA President. He was also the first urban leader of the organization. -
Dr. Case Retires
An event many people never thought would happen, Dr. Larry D. Case retired as National FFA Advisor after 26 years at National FFA (40 long years total, just ask him). He was originally from the Ozark region of Missouri. The last tap of the gavel lead to many tears, mainly from FFA advisors across the country.
