Mongol Invasion of Japan
First Mongol invasion of Japan was in 1274. The Yuan fleet set out, with an estimated 15,000 Mongol & Chinese soldiers and 8,000 Korean warriors, in 300 large vessels and 400-500 smaller craft, although figures vary considerably depending on the source. The first europeans to reach Japan were the portuguese. The date is set between 21 and 24 of september of 1542. Three portuguese ships were taken off course by a storm and after a few days lost they reach the shores of Japan. The captains of the three ships were Francisco Zeimoto, António Peixoto e António da Mota. -

The Portuguese introduced firearms to Japan in the 1540's and were amazed to discover, on their second journey there, that the Japanese had already copied tens of thousands of matchlock guns! Nobunaga permits Christian missionary work
Oda Nobunaga was the second son of Oda Nobuhide, a deputy shugo (military governor) with land holdings in Owari Province. Nobunaga lived a life of continuous military conquest, eventually conquering a third of Japanese daimyo before his death in 1582. His successor, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a loyal Oda supporter, would eventually become the first man to conquer all of Japan and the first ruler of all Japan since the Ōnin War. -
