The birth of Rocket Richard
Maurice Richard was born on August 4th, 1921 in Montreal, Quebec. Maurice was the oldest of 8 siblings, making his family a very large one who stuck together and struggled through the depression. Despite all the struggles the family went through, they managed to give Maurice his first pair of skates, which he skated on local ponds where he started to realize his passion for Hockey. -

Marrying Lucille
Maurice met Lucille when he was 17 and she was just 14. Lucille was the the younger sister of one of Maurice's teammates. Lucille was good at guiding him through trials and disappointments Maurice and Lucille got engaged when Maurice was 20 and even though Lucille's parents thought she was too young to marry, she did it anyways when she was 17. -
First goal in the NHL
Maurice Richards scored his first goal in the NHL on November 8th, 1942. Maurice was playing for the Montreal Canadiens, wearing sweater #15 and facing the New York Rangers. -
50 goals in 50 games
On March 18th 1945 Maurice Richards broke the record by scoring 50 goals in 50 games against the Boston Bruins. -

Richard Riot
On March 13th 1955, in a game against the Boston Bruins, Maurice Richard was hit on the back of the head by a player from the opposing team and in return broke his stick on the players back. The punishment was a 3 game suspension and all the playoffs and the player who started it received nothing. This caused a riot because many fans believed the reason for this severe punishment was the fact he was a french speaking player. -

Maurice Richards passed away on the sad day of May 27th, 2000 at 78 years old after living a very fulfilling life. Maurice died of respiratory failure after struggling with abdominal cancer.
