First Fleet
The First Fleet was the name of the eleven ships bound for Australia mainly filled with convicts.The ships also carried the families of the crew who guarded the ships aswell as innocent people wanting to start new lives with their food and animals.
The ship was ran by a man named Captain Arthur Phillip.
The First Fleet sailed from Great Britain in 1787
and arrived in Australia in 1788. There were a total of 11 ships that made up the First Fleet and they arrived in Botany Bay on 20th Jan 1788. -

Gold Rush
The gold rush was time in Australian history where a lot of people took a chance to migrate to find gold in a different country. The gold rush started in 1851. The first real discovery was made by Edward Hargraves. The places where gold was found were Beechworth, Ballarat and Bendigo. -
Eureka Stockade
Eureka Stockade was a fort built at Eureka lead in 1854. This was built by goldminers lead by Peter Lalor who were fighting for the rights of the miners and protesting about the taxes that the British Government wanted for licences for people to be able to mine gold. The miners formed a large angry group that made a flag and had a big fight with the colonial forces on the 3rd of December 1854 at the Stockade grounds where 22 people died. -
Ned Kelly
Ned Kelly was the most famous bushranger in Australia's history. In 1878 he & his gang became outlaws living in bushland around Melbourne. All through his life he was in trouble with the police but it got worse after he killed 3 policemen. In 1880 at Glenrowan, after a big fight with police and wearing a homemade metal suit he was captured and then hanged at The Old Melbourne Gaol in November of the same year. -
Federation In Australia Part 1
A federation is the joining of states to became one nation.
In 1860 there were six British colonies on the Australian mainland and their laws were made by the British Parliment.
In 1872 people that had migrated to Australia for gold or a new life started feeling settled in a new country. They showed their pride in their new country by making songs, poems and flags. In 1890, they sent leaders of each colony, lead by Henry Parkes to 2 meetings to make a draft of new laws for Australia. -
Federation In Australia Part 2
These laws would give Australia its own identity seperate to Britain. In 1899 they had 2 referendums (elections) that agreed on laws and included WA as a state.
Also at this time Melbourne & Sydney both wanted to be chosen to be Australias capital city. Nether could decide so Canberra was made the capital being halfway between both cities. -
Federation In Australia Part 3
In 1900 the 'Commonwealth of Australian Constitution Act 1900' was passed in the British parliment.
In 1901 set Australian state were made being - Queensland, Victoria, NSW, SA, WA & Tasmania.
NT was part of NSW then SA then made a territory in 1911 ten years after federation. -
Federation in Australia Part 4
Now the states were known as 'The Commonwealth of Australia'. In 1901 Lord Hopetoun was named the first Governor of Australia & Edmund Barton the first Prime Minister of Australia in a centennial ceremony in Sydney.
In 1901 the first Commonwealth Parliment met in the Exhibition Building in Melbourne.
In 1927 they met in Canberra in what is now known as 'Old Parliment House'.
In 1988 'New Parliment House' was opened and is where the constituion papers are now kept.
