  • Sir Henry Parkes Speech

    Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of New South Wales, calls on the colonies to Federate. He made a speech at Tenterfield in favour of Federation.
  • Australia and New Zealand

    In the text, it said that it was time for New Zealand and Australia should come together. The New Zealand government recognised our Australia growing in population, self- growing and wealth.
  • The first constitutional conversation

    They had the first constitutional conversation in Sydney. They made a new set of laws.New Zealand and Australia adopted the name Commonwealth of Australia
  • People not interested in Federation

    People in the 6 colonies were losing their jobs and they also were losing their money. They weren’t getting any money and lost interest of federation.
  • A conference in Corowa

    There was a conference in Corowa and in New South Wales they wanted the colonial to parliaments to hold a new convention to decide on laws.
  • National convention

    They had a second National Australasian convention in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
  • A secret meeting

    In January, the premiers had a secret meeting and they agreed to several changes to the constitution.
  • Travelled to London

    March 1900
    A group of people travelled to London on behalf of Australia to present the laws to the British Parliament.
  • Australia announced officially

    In Sydney, the commonwealth of Australia was announced officially that Centennial on the 1st of January. On the 29th and the 30th of March the first elections were held.
