1890-The Australasian Federation Conference recommended a national convention be held to draft a constitution for the Commonwealth of Australia.(the constitution is a big book of laws and rules for Australia to follow.) -
The constitution draft
1891-The first National Australasian Convention was held in Sydney and drafts a constitution which means the composition of something.This happened on the 9th of April. -

Referendums
1898-Referendums were held in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania and they approved the constitution. It was endorsed by every colony except New South Wales. -
Changes to the constitutions
In January the premiers held a secret meeting and agreed to several changes to the constitution.
Between April and July referendums were held in New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania at which a majority voted yes to the bill. In September Queensland voters endorsed the constitution. -
The commonwealth of australia
1900-In march they traveled to London to present the constitution to the British parliament. In July the British Parliament passed the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act. On the 9th of July queen Victoria signed the commonwealth of Australia constitution act. On the 31st of July Western Australia holds a referendum at which a heap of people approved the constitution. -
Federation
on the 1st of January the commonwealth of Australia was proclaimed. This happened in Centennial park, Sydney.
On the 29th-30th of march, the first commonwealth elections were held.
On the 9th of May the Duke of Cornwall and York( who is now known as king George V) opened the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. They held it in the Royal exhibition in Melbourne.
