The first National Constitutional Convention was held in Sydney. The conference finished the constitution on the 9th of April, 1891. Parkes spoke while Samuel, Clark and Kingston worked on the Constitution. -
1890's Depression
Banks closed, immigration was stopped and several people suffered from depression. The colonial parliaments coped to deal with the interest people had with federation. -
Intercolonial Conference
There was an Intercolonial Conference held in Sydney. It was about an agreement about restricting immigration from all coloured races. -
Final Conference
This was the final session of the Federal Council. -
Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria announced that the Commonwealth of Australia, the six colonies joining, would happen on the 1st of January 1901. -
One Nation
Australia became a nation. -
Federal Elections
The first Federal elections occurred. Aboriginals in SA, NSW, TAS and VIC were able to vote, as well as women in SA and WA and men in all states. -
Federal Parliament Opens
The first Federal Parliament was opened by Duke of York in the Exhibition building in Melbourne. The Federal Parliament began to have meetings in the Exhibition building until 1927 when the capital moved to Canberra. -
Australia's Flag is Flown
Australia's national flag was flown for the first time.
