The second National Australasian Convention met three times in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne during 1897 and 1898 and used the constitution as a starting point for deliberations. The convention comprised and appointed the representatives from all the colonies except Queensland. -
1898
In June 1898 votes were held in New South Wales,
Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Australia was the first
nation to take a proposed constitution to the people for approval -
1899
Between April and July 1899 votes were again held in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania, the result was that all four colonies agreed to the proposed constitution. Western Australia still refused to take part.
