Bonnets and Caps were aslo worn in the 1840’s. Bonnets were less heavily decorated. But the decorations that were on the Bonnets were often flowers or a veil that was draped over the face. Caps were decorated more with frills, lace, and ribbons worn by married women indoors. -
What the poor wore in 1845
The poor wore very simple dresses and cloths, not much difference in style between the two poor and rich but the quality was. They wore long, box pleated skirts that hung straight down to there legs. And band of folds high across the stomach. -

There were many popular hairstyle’s that were worn in 1855. Many women wore bangs, and the curly frizzy locks were also quit popular. Hair was often put loosely at top of the head. -
Types of dresses worn in 1858
In 1858 the women started to wear detailed dresses with frills, flounces, lace, ruche and ribbons. And heavy layers of underclothes, and a metal hoop skirt wore on top. That finished the look of elegance and grace with comfort. -
What the rich wore in the 1860's
On the other hand the rich wore detailed dresses that sometimes hung right above there feet or swept across the floor. They wore very narrow skirts, sloping shoulders, and bell shaped skirts that started low from the waist. -
Shoes during 1868
The type of women’s shoes that were worn during 1868 were usually black or white satin with square tips and no heel. -
Hairstyles in 1875
In 1875 the women often left their bangs grown and parted at the side, but still kept their hair frizzy and curly just like the 1840's. -
Dresses in the 1880's
By 1880s the style started to change and women started to wear curvy silhouettes with wide shoulders. Fashionable waists were low and tiny, that was supported by a corset. -
Hiarstyles in the 1880's
In the 1880’s the hairstyles from 1855 were different. In the 1880’s hair was usually pulled back at the sides and worn in a low knot.
