1700s
Men's coats were so long that they almost concealed the breeches, and the, waistcoats were almost as long as the coats.Women's dress was somewhat severe, although it had certain elements of informality. The small laced apron was much worn, even on important occasions. Below it was the flowered petticoat, much more important than the skirt, which was frequently drawn back in bunches or folds. The bodice of the dress, although cut low, was very stiff. -
1800s
Sometimes women wore steel hoops under their skirts to make them rounder. Under their dresses, they wore petticoats, and shifts, and corsets to support their breasts. -
1850s
1850s fashion in Western and Western-influenced clothing is characterized by an increase in the width of women's skirts supported by crinolines or hoops, and the beginnings of dress reform. Masculine styles began to originate more in London, while female fashions originated almost exclusively in Paris. -
1900s
In the early 1900's was designed to show off a woman’s tightly corseted torso. Such close-fitting clothes required "the perfect fit," so the most stylish women went to dressmakers who could do this for them. -
1950s
1950's fashion emphasized femininity. Women were wearing stiletto heels, wrist- length gloves and full skirts.
Even working women's outfits had hints of fragility, with pencil skirts and little hats with veil and feathers. -
1980s

A general synopsis of fashion and clothing/style trends of the decade include big teased hair or spiral perms for women, mullets or more clean-cut styles for men, baggy and oversized tops, leggings, high-waisted jeans, ripped and acid-washed denim, tight exercise clothing for everyday (leg warmers and spandex), headbands, shoulder pads, boxy silhouettes, large bold prints, and colorful pastels and brights. -
2000s
In the mid 2000s women wore mostly low rise skinny jeans. Tunics were worn with wide or thin belts, longer tank tops with a main blouse or shirt, leggings, knee-high boots with pointed toes, capri pants, and vintage clothing. The men’s wore slim-fitting jeans were cutting edge, cartoon printed hoodies, Converse sneakers, mod-style parkas and military dress jackets were the essential fashion items for men back then. -
1990s
Starting in the mid-90s, industrial and military styles crept into mainstream fashion. People were finding any way to make a fashion accessory out of a piece of machinery. Camouflage pants were ironically worn by anti-war protesters. -
2004
There is no doubt that in 2003 and 2004 women and girls began to look more feminine again as colourful and cheerful fabric prints have slowly crept back into a corner of most women's wardrobes. -
