Fannie Lou Hamer was born in to a family of 19 children in Montgomery County, Mississippi. She was born to sharecropper parents. -
Dropping Out of School to Work in the Fields
Fannie Lou Hamer dropped out of school and began working in the fields all at the age of six. -

She went to the rally because she saw signs made by the two groups and that caught her attention and then she became involved. -
Getting Registered to Vote
Fannie Lou Hamer wanted to be able to vote really bad so she traveled to Ruleville Mississippi to register to vote. -
Jailed and Beaten
Fannie Lou Hamer had joined the SCNN an they began traveling across the South working on many registration campaigns. On June 3rd she was jailed and beaten by three white police officers and the beating lead to kidney damage for Fannie Lou Hamer. -
Starting the Mississippi Freedom Democratic party

Running for Congress
Fannie Lou Hamer ran for Congress two times but both times failed. -
Death
Fannie Lou Hamer left behind a long legacy and is one of the main reasons the African-Americans are now able to vote. She died because of breast cancer in Mound Bayou, Mississippi at the age of 59
