Sometime in the late 1890's Grandpa and Grandma Hollis moved their young family to HollyColorado
-
Shotgun wedding a couple counties over, one of each parent signed the license. She's like 8 and a half months pregnant.
-
Granny always said they lived with one of their parents when she was born. Maybe Grandma and Grandpa Hollis?
-
They were divorced in LaJunta, Otero County, Colorado
-
-
shown on census as unnamed in April, still, believe it or not!
-
-
Census registers Grandma and Grandpa Hollis in CO
-
Census shows them living in Garden City, KS with a baby daughter without a name yet, Aunt Gladys
-
Edna Josephine Cromer, her middle name from Ralph's mother's first name. EDNA ... who knows.
-
Unsure of Date - but both of them are listed on voter registrations for 1916 in SoCal.
-
Los Angeles County is all I know.
-
He was born in Aldwinkle, Northhamptonshire, England on 03 January 1837; died in Holly, Colorado. Yes, he totally robbed the cradle when he got married ;)
-
Ralph registers for the draft for WW1 in Fresno County, so they'd already moved to Reedley by then. Why did they move to Reedley, I wonder?
-
-
Last cases of this world-wide killer flu were reported during 1920 - it could be what happened to Aunt Edna
-
-
-
At least, I believe they were in Reedley by then. Certainly in Fresno County, though.
-
The Bay family (Grandma Josie, Ralph's mother) live in the city of Fresno. George is enumerated with them.
-
Exact day unknown, Granny's notes only say August; they lived in Reedley at the time, this may have been the flu
-
Exact day and year unknown. They were divorced 1921-1923 sometime, records should be in Fresno County if we want to go dig them up.
-
George adopted out to the Betts home in Long Beach and becomes George David Betts. Exact date unknown. 1920-1922 sometime. Records may be here or in So. Cal.
-
The Snow family were settlers in Tulare County (3 Rivers area?) - In the 1920 census John Henry Snow lived with his mother's household near/in Dinuba, so this marriage record could be either in Tulare or Fresno County.
-
Approx date, calculated from Aunt Zoa's birthday. Possibly happened in Kingsburg - again, this could be recorded in either Tulare County or Fresno County.
-
Aunt Zoa is born in So. Cal, Los Angeles County, at a home for unwed mothers. {date obfuscated}
-
Exact date unknown: 1923-1924 sometime. Uncle Ted remembers Grandma taking a pregnant Granny to the courthouse to attend the trial, and he had to wait outside. Whether it was Tulare County or Fresno County, or who the man was, nobody knows.
-
We believe they were married in Tulare County
-
(Or they get divorced. I swear Granny told me he died) All we can do is speculate on the date range, 1924-1929
-
Tulare County - records were sealed, tho. We're pretty sure this happened as soon as he could after their 1 year anniversary.
-
Betty was born to the newlyweds :)
-
-
Census puts Grandma and Grandpa Bay in Covina for 1930. Don't know how long, though.
-
Census lists the Betts Family still living in Long Beach in 1930, with George. :)
-
Grandma Daisy listed in 1930 census as widower living in Reedley, with Rob Stokes as her ... boarder :)
-
Betty Ann dies of complications after an accident on the farm. :(
-
Nobody seems to know when they were married, I'm going to guess 1931. Surely this was in Fresno County? I don't think it was his first marriage, either. And They Lived Happily Ever After! YAY Grandma, finally!
