My dear daughter, I am writing this letter on a piece of bark taken from a birch tree growing on the bank of the Ottawa River. This is the material the early settlers used for letters when they were out in the woods + could not get any paper. Our camp is in Ontario but we can see the Province of Quebec on the other side of the Ottawa River. With fond love to you + mother. I am your loving father,
