First recorded Ukrainian immigration to Canada
The first officially recorded arrival of Ukrainian immigrants were two men Ivan Pylypiw and Wasyl Eleniak. This date in Canada has been documented as September 7, 1891, there is evidence of an earlier Ukrainian presence on the North American continent, but it is not for sure. -

My great grandmother was born on a farm in Sheho Saskatchewan. She married by great grandfather when she was 18 and had three boys.My grandfather is the baby in this picture. and was the middle child.
She remained a housewife and supported her community and church when my great grandfather became a priest. -
Michael Romaniuk (my great grandfather) immigrated to Canada
Michael travelled alone, by ship and arrived in montreal, 1928. He was 33 at the time, and immigrated because his father died in Ukraine and his mother and sisters had no income to support themselves, so he went to Canada to find a job. He had one sister already in Canada and she sent him money to travel. -
Mary Chachula (My great grandmother) arrived in Canada
She travelled alone, from Sanok Poland by train Gdansk, boarded the S.S. Lituania on Aug 14, 1929 and then later arrived in Halifax on Aug 25, 1929. Mary's brother sold a cow and gave her the money for her to travel and immigrate to Canada. The reason for her immigration to canada was ger ti marry my great grandfather. -
Grandparents on my mom side, born in Hamilton
My Grandparents grew up and met in Hamilton, Ontario.My grandmother was an only child, and is a retired Public Health Nurse. My Grandfather is the middle child of three boys. He is a retired senior executive fwith a Pharmaceutical Co.His oldest brother is a reitred Superior court Judge, and the other is a lawyer, both out of Hamilton.They recently celebrated their 50th year Wedding Anniversary. -
Great Grandfather becomes a priest
My great grandfather was a school teacher for many years and then became a priest at age 33. He served the Ukrainian Orthodox church for 63 years, achieving the highest position as Metropolitan for the Ukrainaine Orthodox church of Canada. He was honor many times for his contributions.He was iInducted to the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction in 2000. -

Grandmother visits Ukraine in her role with the Canadian Health Department
1994 Health Promotion in School Curriculm Kyiv Ukraine sponsored by Canadian Ministry. My Great Grandmother went to Ukraine and was a presentor for the Public health department. Brought the schools tooth brushes that were donated by Canadian local dentists.
